Kanye West - Good Friday

If you are not one of one-million-plus avid followers of Kanye West’s glorious short, timely messages on Twitter, allow me to both fill you in and implore you to check them out immediately.

For one thing, Kanye’s often hilarious (“On set of the movie… this doe just refuses to sit still… I told the deer… “what would Bambi do?” & she looked at me like I was crazy”), often heartfelt (“I’m sorry Taylor.”), sometimes reflective (“I’m ready to get out of my own way. The ego is overdone… it’s like hoodies”), always honest (“I love me.”) tweets provide some of the best entertainment on the Internet. They have also done wonders to save his public image since the VMAs incident exactly one year ago.

The best and most important thing about these little glimpses into one of the most… (Brilliant? Hysterical?) interesting minds of our time, though, is what Kanye refers to as “Good Fridays.” Once a week he shares a new song, usually on Fridays, and so far his new music has, without fail, been phenomenal. By releasing one killer track at a time, he is successfully building anticipation for his upcoming album (earlier tentatively titled Good Ass Job).

By far the most impressive track so far has been “Monster”, which features impeccable verses from both Jay-Z and the incomparable Nicki Minaj, as well as a surprising but somehow fitting appearance from Bon Iver. It is, however, only one of 5 amazing tracks released as part of Good Fridays so far, the latest being the catchy “Good Friday,” which features its own impressive line-up of guests, including Kid Cudi and Common. An honourable mention also goes out to the Marvin Gaye-esque “Devil In A New Dress.”

The official release of “Runaway”, which Kanye performed at Sunday’s 2010 MTV VMAs, is imminent (You can find the track below). A 45-second video featuring the song can be found at Good Fridays as of today.
